Controller (West Coast)

This position will have primary responsibility for the day to day supervision of financial operations, and overseeing compliance and controls. The controller will also be responsible for supporting Client Finance, Operations and other business stakeholders by providing information and analysis to enable decisions to be taken with full understanding of the financial impact they will have. The role requires excellent financial and accounting skills as well as understanding of agency/media operations.

  • Review and liaise with account management to ensure proper monthly revenue recognition, job profitability and client profitability.

  • Provide performance KPI to Management team incl Staff utilization ratio, tracking of Non billable items and WIP reconciliation

  • Preparation of statements for HQ, monthly, quarterly and annual. Accrual based.

  • Prepare and review monthly cash projections

  • Ensure an appropriate controls environment is in place working alongside the client finance and IT department and monitor and report compliance with it

  • Oversee posting of period-end accruals and adjustments and ensure compliance with policy and accepted accounting standards including liaison with the accounting dpt on revenue recognition

  • Oversee contract stage-related adjustments & write-offs

  • Oversee the preparation of draft periodic budgets, capital plans and forecasts working closely with the CFO

  • Oversee production of financial information and analysis to enable business stakeholders working with their Finance Business Partners to make decisions with full understanding of the financial impacts they will have (pricing and estimates)

  • Preparation of routine and ad hoc analysis and reports, that highlights significant variances and areas for further attention and analysis for example revenue, net sales, pipeline and utilization

  • Responsible for Annual company budgets as well as quarterly forecasts.

  • Responsible for monthly budget commentaries and oversight

  • Provides technical accounting advice, research and support ensuring the Company is in compliance with the latest reporting requirements and that management receives timely, accurate results and data to make informed decisions.

  • Ensures integrity of financial systems, general ledgers and sub-ledgers and identifies system enhancements to maximize productivity and reduce operating costs

  • Develops policies & procedures for above areas to ensure proper internal controls while maximizing operational efficiency

  • Responsible for responding on relevant ad hoc queries

  • Advertising, Marketing and Media agency background important

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated expertise in financial management and accounting

  • Track-record of managing and motivating a team

  • High integrity and confidence to be able to call out poor or inappropriate behaviors

  • Excellent organizational, analytical skills, problem-solving skills and financial acumen

  • Ability to identify major risks and work collaboratively with management teams to develop plans to mitigate those risks

  • Track record of working with regulatory bodies and managing statutory and regulatory compliance

  • Accountable, delivers on promises and follows through on commitments even in challenging circumstances

  • Track record of working in uncertain and ambiguous situations

  • In depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including familiarity with accounting positions and related guidance provided by SEC, in areas like Consolidations, Revenue Recognition, Foreign Currency Accounting, Impairment, Capitalization of Internally Developed Software, Equity;

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills;

  • Solid experience as Finance Manager / Finance Director / Management Accounting role

  • Fully qualified accountant

  • Degree level education

  • CPA and MBA a plus
