Black Box Corporation Senior Maintenance Technician for Avaya Communications Manager (CM6) in San Diego, California

Black Box is seeking an experienced Senior Maintenance Technician Avaya Communications Manager-6 to work in the Black Box MCAS Miramar, CA location.


  • The Senior Maintenance Technician will report directly to the Program Manager and will be required to submit all reports as specified in the PWS as deliverables and by Black Box Corporation (e.g., weekly, monthly, training, corrective action report, etc…). Tasks will be submitted on time and with minimal supervision.

  • The Senior Maintenance Technician will be Avaya CM6 certified with experience on the AVAYA CM6 suite of hardware, software and related ancillary equipment to include but not limited to: Communication Manager, System Manager, Session Manager, Application Enablement Services (AES), E911, drawings, network diagrams, As-Builts, Rack Elevation and layout, topology, switches, specbook, servers, battery/power plant, etc…. Also, must have knowledge of all translations and routing changes to include the North American Numbering Plan routing translations.

  • The Senior Maintenance Technician will be able to perform/delegate the O&M functions, preventive and demand maintenance routines, trouble resolution, and trouble tickets and work orders completion on the Avaya and ancillary equipment.

  • The Senior Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the overall day to day operations and guidance of the onsite team (2 Avaya technicians). The Senior Maintenance Technician will ensure the Avaya Technicians are trained and proficient in their assigned duties.

  • Proven skills in reliability and dependability demonstrated through completing tasks on time and with minimal supervision, punctual and present for work, informing appropriate individuals when work will not be completed in agreed upon time frame.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to safely drive company vehicles.

  • Ability to pass a background check

Required Technical Skills

  • Technical Knowledge and Certifications - The Senior Maintenance Technician shall be Avaya CM6 certified and familiar with the installation, operation and management of the following:

  • Avaya DEFINITY ® -Enterprise Communication Server / CM6

  • Avaya EXPERT Systems SM Diagnostic Tools

  • Voice Messaging

  • Avaya INTUITY™ AUDIX® Messaging System

  • Crash Alarm System

  • CAIRS Telecommunications Management System

  • Avaya Application Enablement Services (AES)

  • The Senior Maintenance Technician shall support the MCAS Miramar S-6 and liaison with the S-6 Telecommunications Manager in order to coordinate appropriate service completion.

  • Fault Management

  • Telecommunication System Configuration Backup

  • On-site Moves, Adds & Changes (MACs)

  • Performance Measurement

  • Technical Consulting

  • Network Carrier and Wiring Vendor Support

  • Provide management of communications support services for special events and systems

  • Provide testing and maintenance services for equipment connected to the telecommunications network. Tasks include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Compunetix Audio Conference Maintenance

  • SecureLogix Maintenance

  • Ion SecureCare Maintenance

  • CAIRS Telecommunications Maintenance System Maintenance

  • DC Power Extended Warranty & Preventative Maintenance

  • AC Power Extended Warranty & Preventative Maintenance

  • Support additions, moves, or re-arrangements of project facilities terminating on Avaya CM6 or other part of the MCAS Miramar voice network

  • Provide consultation to the Government and provide coordination with the Government’s designated network carriers and wiring vendors:

  • Provide management of communications support services for special events and systems

  • Supervise and/or assist on site Install, Moves, Adds & Changes (IMACs): Able to provide and/or supervise the installation, operation, testing and maintenance services as it relates to voice and data network installation, troubleshooting and operation of inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) communications infrastructure using copper and fiber optic cabling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Systems or Business discipline with 5 years or greater direct relevant technical experience may be substituted for education

  • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in programming and maintenance of the Avaya CM and subtending systems

  • Working knowledge of IP Subnetting, QoS, IPV4/IPV6 model, routers and switches.

  • Working knowledge of Avaya Aura Conferencing, Avaya Aura Messaging, Avaya Aura Contact Center Avaya Session Manager, Avaya System Manager, Application Enablement Services (AES) and Avaya OneX.

  • Candidate must possess or have the knowledge to pass/certification the ACIS- Avaya Aura® Communication Manager and CM (R6.x) Messaging certification, ACIS- Avaya Session Manager, System Manager certification

  • Familiarity with Avaya Engineering and Provisioning tools, including Avaya Solution Designer (ASD) and Global Registration Tool (GRT)

  • Experience with Marine Corps policies, processes and procedures.
